Socio Economic Condition in Rural Areas: A Study Tour in Kelia Village, Dhamrai

The Department of Social Science organized a study tour to Kelia at Dhamra, Manikgonjon 3 December 2015. It was led by Dr. Md. Taufiqul Islam, head of the department. Twenty one students from “Social Science Research Methodology” courseparticipated in the study tour to gain the knowledge about agriculture and education system of that village and to observe and foster an understanding of the way of lives of the people in Kelia village. The tour was collaborated with a wide range of academic and practical learning session.

The journey started at 9am and an hour later the team was welcomed by the warm hospitality by the villagers,a shining sun and natural weather in that village. After arrival students were divided into some groups and started to collect data observing the village. This beautiful village features majestic canals and fertile rice fields that provide it’s as well as the country’seconomy base. As part of the study, students asked various question about their agriculture. The villagers told the team about the land, planting time, harvesting time, etc. Later, the team visited Kelia Primary School and made conversation with the students as well as the teachers which provided knowledge about their education system, learners’ needs, role of teacher and how much they are using the state-of-the-art technology. During the middle portion of our tour, we spend some time at Jahangirnagar University which is archeologically very prominent and renowned. It was about to afternoon, we did get on the bus for Dhaka. Though the tour was only a-day long tour, its reflection will remain ever fresh as it helped to realize the life, nature and education of village people.
