Seminar on Research and Development

SEMINAR ON RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

In response to the requests of the faculty members and in consonance with the thrust of the university for capacity building in the area of research, a one-day seminar was designed by the Center for Research, Planning  and Development of the university held on 21 April 2011 in the Seminar Room of Campus 7. This activity was also in compliance with the recommendation of the PAASCU Evaluation Team to organize seminar on research so that the faculty can enhance their competence in conducting research for their professional development. Specifically, the seminar envisioned to achieve the following objectives:
  1. orient the participants on the research agenda  of the university, 2011-2021
  2. explain and illustrate the value of research in development
  3. discuss research process and methodology
  4. contribute to the enhancement of research culture in the university
The program was opened with a welcome message from the Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Anwar Hossain.  He underscored the importance of research in various aspects of the academic and business arenas. The promotion in academic rank is giving  significant weight to the total evaluation of the faculty. This is the reason that every faculty must strive to conduct at least 1 research during the academic year. His message was followed by a presentation and discussion of Prof. Dr. Charles C. Villanueva, Dean Faculty of Business Administration and the Senior Asso. Vice President of CRPD on the Role of Research in Development , AIUB’s Research Agenda  and Research Priorities by Faculty . There are 7 broad areas identified as the focal of the agenda  that would guide the faculty in  the conduct of research in the next 10 years: Quality Assurance, Business Promotions, Strengthening Partnerships, Internationalization, Curriculum Development and Enrichment, CSR and Participation in the Digitalization of Bangladesh.  The topic on Research Process was divided into subtopics: Social Science and Business with Prof. Dr. Neaz Ahmed and Dr. Mamun Habib as discussants, respectively. The Research Methodology topic was divided into Statistical Tools discussed by Dr. Nisar Ahmed while the Data Analysis was discussed by Mr. Shahnawaz Rafi. The discussants highlight some illustrations showing the application of the SPSS in data processing and interpretation, and the current statistical  models in analyzing data to make it more meaningful and useful. The seminar ended with a recap and concluding statements from the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences , Prof. Dr. Tazul Islam.  He also presided the distribution of Certificate of Participation to the 65 participants and 5 Resource Persons. The program of the seminar was emceed  by Prof. Dr. Matiur  Rahman, Asso. Dean, Faculty of Business Administration.
