The Department of Finance, Faculty of Business Administration, AIUB hosted an insightful seminar titled “Empirical Research on Finance: Building the Foundation for Tomorrow's Financial Experts” on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at the Media Studio in Annex 2, from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM. The seminar provided a valuable opportunity for finance students to explore empirical research methodologies and understand their practical applications in the field of finance.

The seminar was conducted by Dr. Shaker Ahmed, a Lecturer in Finance at the University of Surrey, who shared his deep knowledge of empirical finance. His presentation covered the basics of empirical research in finance, with real-life examples to help clarify complex concepts. Dr. Ahmed also discussed his last three research papers, which were highly relevant to the seminar’s theme. Notably, he shared insights from his award-winning Best Paper Award research, further establishing his prominent position in the field of finance. His experiences and expertise inspired students to pursue empirical research and deepened their understanding of the subject.

The event was anchored by Nabila Wahid, Lecturer in the Department of Finance, who guided the seminar seamlessly. Dr. Rezbin Nahar, Associate Professor and Director of the BBA Program, delivered the concluding speech, summarizing the key points and emphasizing the importance of empirical research for students in the finance field. The seminar was attended by notable faculty members, including Md. Mehzabul Hoque Nahid, Senior Assistant Professor and Head of the MIS Department, and Sazia Afrin, Assistant Professor of Accounting.

The seminar was organized by Bohi Shajahan, Senior Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Finance; Quazi Nur Alam, Assistant Professor of the Department of Finance; and Nabila Wahid, Lecturer of the Department of Finance, aiming to foster academic excellence and equip students with practical knowledge that will shape their careers as financial experts.

The event was aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure. By promoting empirical research in finance, the seminar supported these SDGs and contributed to the development of future leaders in the finance sector.
