Seminar on Career at Therap

“Opportunities don’t happen, you create them. Success doesn’t come and find you, you have to go out and get it.” And in that light, the AIUB Computer Club (ACC) in collaboration with Therap (BD) Ltd., organized a seminar on the 24th of December 2019, titled, “Career at Therap”, which was held on the AIUB Campus premises. 

A US-based company with an office in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Therap is a national leader in providing Software as a Service (SaaS) to government and private organizations supporting people with developmental disabilities in the US. The company strives to maintain a startup culture in which everyone is a hands-on contributor and feels comfortable sharing ideas and opinions, which is what the session aimed to highlight, in order to encourage fresh graduates and potential students to apply and join Therap.

The seminar was conducted by Mr. Richard Robbins, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Therap, who was accompanied by his highly trained team comprising of Major General (Retd.) M. Shamim Chowdhury, the Vital Analyst & Director of HR, Mr. Md. Nazrul Islam, the Senior System Analyst, Mr. Kazi Rezwan Abedin Saad, the Senior Software Engineer (Quality Assurance), Mr. Khandakar Nasrat Zubair, the Senior Database Engineer, Ms. Tasfia Afnan Barshon, the Training & Content Specialist, Mr. Minar Mahmud and Mr. Seemantra Ahmed Shubho, the Software Engineers at Therap (BD) Ltd.


Dr. Dip Nandi, Director of the Faculty of Science & Technology (FST), Mr. Tareque Moudud, the Director of the Office of Placement, opened the session by welcoming the guests from Therap to the university. The session began with a quick presentation of their medicine-based application, various services and websites. With over 30 alumni currently employed at Therap, they shared what they look for in potential candidates recruited at the organization and how should they should prepare themselves at the start of their careers. Later a short video highlighting the various insights of Therap, followed by a briefing about the facilities for women at Therap, like private rooms for resting during pregnancy, separate gym & yoga sessions on premises, etc.

The seminar concluded with an interactive Q&A session, followed by a group photo, and the presenting of the tokens of appreciation to the guests. The seminar was attended by numerous students and faculty members from various departments. Both AIUB and Therap exchanged their views on the seminar, and expressed their interest in cultivating their relationship further to provide opportunities of collaboration in the long run.
