SEMINAR ON ACCREDITATION OF HIGHER EDUCATION IN USA
The American International University-Bangladesh in collaboration with the American Center in Bangladesh organized a seminar on accreditation of higher education in USA with Dr. Loiuse Zak as the resource person. Dr. Zak is an American Expert on the University Accreditation Process with years of experience with New England Association of Schools and Colleges. Her services are sponsored by the US Government.
Dr. Zak discussed topics on self-study in context, dual functions of accreditation, accreditation-4-part system, standards, evaluation team, role of the evaluation team, qualities of effective evaluator, the campus visit, product and process of self-study, appraisal of evidence, ipo, and projection. These topics were found interesting and relevant to the participants as they were informed how the process is going on in American institutions. Some similarities are identified particularly in the 4 stages involved in accreditation: standards, self-study or self-survey, evaluation by the team visit and the commission decision. AIUB went to these stages during its accreditation of the business and IT programs.
The seminar was participated in by all the Deans of the 3 Faculties- Business, Engineering, Science and Informational Technology, and Arts and Social Sciences with their departments heads, Directors, Asso. Dean, faculty members and AQAC members. There were 6 guest participants from IBAIS university headed by their Vice Chancellor and Pro Vice Chancellor.
Prof. Dr. Charles C. Villanueva, Dean, Faculty of Business Administration and the Overall Coordinator of the Accreditation Program of AIUB welcome the Resource Speakers, 2 other officers from the American Center in Bangladesh and the participants. It was a very informative session although, it lasted only for about 1 and a half hours. A brief interaction session with the participants followed the discussion of Dr. Zak . The seminar culminated with the presentation of the Certificate of Appreciation to Dr. Zak and university souvenirs to the guests.
