Seminar on “A Novel Fuzzy Logic and Flux Weakening Controller Based High Speed Control of PMSM Drives”

A seminar showcasing Fuzzy Logic and flux weakening controller based on high speed control of PMSM drives was held on 17th July, 2011. The program organized by IEEE AIUB Student Branch was held in room 265. The Seminar was conducted by Dr. M. Nasir Uddin, Senior Member IEEE,Professor, Lakehead University, Thunder Bay, ON, Canada. The program was attended by Dr. ABM Siddique Hossain Professor and Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Bashudeb Chandra Ghosh Professor, Mr. M. A. Qaiyum, Professor and Registrar, Dr. Md. Abdul Mannan, Assistant Prof., Mr. Rinku Basak, Assistant Prof. and Dept. Coordinator, Mr. Dhrupad Debnath, lecturer, Mr. Akram Hossain Chowdhury, lecturer, Mr. Partha Protim Dash, lecturer andMr. Abrar Faisal, lecturer all fromEEE department. Fuzzy logic, a form of many-valued logic was introduced to students in the seminar. The informative speech by Dr. M. Nasir Uddin gave an overall view of the subject before moving on to its use in precise speed control for PMSM (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Drives). The experimental setup of the FLC (Fuzzy Logic Controller) was also shown in the seminar. The room was filled to capacity with eager students and faculties. An open question and answer session was held afterwards where Dr. M. Nasir Uddin answered questions regarding the technology implemented in the FLC. Dr. M. Nasir Uddin is currently serving as a chair of IEEE IAS Industrial Automation and Control Committee (IACC). He is the technical chair for IEEE IAS (IACC) Annual Meetings 2011 and 2012. His research paper on FLC entitled “Performances of fuzzy-logic-based indirect vector control for induction motor drive” was published in Industrial Applications, IEEE.
