The Office of Placement and Alumni (OPA) and the Faculty of Business Administration (FBA) of the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) jointly organized the “Roadshow on HSBC Bangladesh Student Work Placement Program,” a dynamic seminar held on Wednesday, 28th April, at the Multipurpose Hall, Level 05, Annex-07 of AIUB. The event, which took place from 11:20 AM to 12:50 PM, brought together industry leaders and aspiring professionals to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world banking experience. Mr. R. Tareque Moudud, Director of OPA, opened the session with insightful remarks, emphasizing that robust industrial relationships are essential for university students as they foster practical exposure, enhance employability, and cultivate networks that are crucial for successful career transitions. He then introduced and moderated the distinguished panel of resource speakers: Ms. Sabin Rahman, Senior Vice President & Senior Manager, Learning, Talent, Talent Acquisition & Organization Development, Human Resources; Mr. Tanvir Bary, Associate Director and Head of GMCS, Markets & Securities Services; and Mr. Tanzid Samad Choudhury, Officer, Talent Acquisition, Human Resources.
During the seminar, Ms. Sabin Rahman provided an in-depth overview of the HSBC Bangladesh Student Work Placement Program, highlighting its six-month duration starting in July 2025 and its focus on providing Bangladeshi nationals-final-year students or recent graduates from recognized universities-with hands-on exposure in key banking areas such as Corporate and Institutional Banking, Markets & Securities Services, International Wealth and Premier Banking, Digital Business Services, and Global Functions including Legal, Finance, Human Resources, Corporate Sustainability, Internal Audit, Compliance, and Risk. Rahman outlined the eligibility criteria, which included strong communication and computer skills, and the legal right to work in Bangladesh, emphasizing that the program aimed to nurture talent by encouraging responsibility, innovation, and individual contributions within HSBC’s diverse environment. Mr. Tanvir Bary shared his personal career journey at HSBC, elaborating on the essential skills required for success in the banking sector and discussing the extensive learning and development opportunities available through HSBC. His narrative inspired students by illustrating the tangible benefits and growth prospects offered by the institution. The session became particularly engaging when Mr. Tanzid Samad Choudhury conducted an interactive quiz, energizing the audience
and directly advancing the top three scorers to the second stage of HSBC’s internship recruitment process. Choudhury’s approachable and interactive style fostered a vibrant atmosphere, making the seminar both enjoyable and memorable for all participants. His ability to connect with students through real-time engagement transformed the seminar into an active learning experience, ensuring high enthusiasm and participation throughout.
This event made a significant contribution to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the areas of Quality Education (SDG 4), Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8), and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17). By facilitating direct interaction between students and leading industry professionals, the seminar advanced SDG 4 by enhancing the quality and relevance of education, equipping students with practical skills and real-world knowledge that complement their academic pursuits. The HSBC Student Work Placement Programme, as described during the seminar, is designed to bridge the gap between theoretical learning and industry practice, ensuring that graduates are better prepared for the demands of the modern workforce. In alignment with SDG 8, the program creates pathways to decent work by offering structured, meaningful internships that serve as launching pads for future careers in the financial sector. Students are given the opportunity to tackle real business challenges, develop essential competencies, and gain exposure to a global banking environment-critical elements for sustainable economic growth and youth employment. Furthermore, the collaborative nature of the event, bringing together academia and industry, exemplified SDG 17 by fostering partnerships that are vital for achieving broader development objectives. The active involvement of HSBC in university initiatives, as well as the direct recruitment opportunities provided through the seminar’s interactive components, demonstrated how cross-sector partnerships can drive innovation, empower youth, and contribute to national and global development agendas. The presence of esteemed FBA Dean, Director and faculty members, including Professor Dr. Anwar Hossain (Advisor and Dean-in-Charge), Dr. Rezbin Nahar (Director BBA, FBA), Mr. Obaidul Islam (Sr), Dr. M. Anisa Khatun, Dr. Mohammed Kamrul Hasan, Ms. Shahnaz Zarin Haque, Mr. Soumendra Sankar Das, Dr. Md. Aftab Anwar, Mr. Dr Kamrul Hasan, Mr. Mehzabul H.
