On Friday, February 23, 2024, the national round of the 14th Bangladesh Physics Olympiad took place at the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB). Following a regional round that attracted approximately 10,000 students from across the country, a total of 1,130 students were selected to compete in the national round.

The inauguration ceremony commenced with the hoisting of the national flag, with Ms. Nadia Anwar, Founder Member and Vice-Chairman of the AIUB Board of Trustees, serving as the Chief Guest. Prof. Dr. Muhammed Zafar Iqbal, Chairman of the Bangladesh Physics Olympiad Committee, and Mr. Anisul Hoque, Editor of Kishor Alo and Associate Editor of The Daily Prothom Alo, also graced the event, extending warm welcomes to the participating students and their guardians. Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman, Pro-Vice Chancellor of AIUB, Dr. Manzur H Khan, Proctor of AIUB, and representatives from both AIUB and the Bangladesh Physics Olympiad Committee also honored the occasion with their presence.

Earlier in the day, students with their guardians gathered at the AIUB campus at 7:30 am to receive their kits and refreshments. The Olympiad commenced promptly at 9:30 am and concluded at 11:30 am. Following the exam, lunch was served to both students and guardians at the AIUB canteen. At 2:00 PM, an engaging Q&A session took place at the AIUB amphitheater, providing students with the opportunity to interact with esteemed figures such as Prof. Dr. Muhammed Zafar Iqbal, Chairman of the Bangladesh Physics Olympiad Committee, and Prof. Dr. M. Arshad Momen, Department of Physical Sciences, Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), and Coach of the National Team for the Bangladesh Physics Olympiad. This was followed by a mesmerizing magic show and a captivating cultural performance by the AIUB Performing Arts Club (APAC).

At 4:00 PM, the much-anticipated Prize Distribution and Closing Ceremony commenced. Prof. Dr. Mesbahuddin Ahmed, Chairman of the Bangladesh Accreditation Council (BAC), graced the occasion as the chief guest, delivering an inspiring speech to the participants. Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman, Pro-Vice Chancellor of AIUB, Prof. Dr. Yasmeen Haque, Vice Chairman of the Bangladesh Physics Olympiad Committee, Prof. Dr. M Arshad Momen, Department of Physical Sciences, IUB, and Coach of the National Team for the Bangladesh Physics Olympiad, and Mr. Jahangir Masud, General Secretary of the Bangladesh Physics Olympiad Committee, provided remarks during the closing ceremony.

A total of 110 students were declared winners in the national round, each receiving prizes such as medals, winner’s T-shirts, and certificates. Additionally, the top 3 winners from each category received trophies and books. Among the winners, 5 outstanding individuals will have the honor of representing Bangladesh in the 54th International Physics Olympiad, with 3 of them receiving air tickets courtesy of the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB).

The 14th Bangladesh Physics Olympiad 2024 was jointly organized by the Bangladesh Physics Olympiad Committee and the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB).
