American International University-Bangladesh hosted the seminar “Exploring Success, Experience Issues and Challenges of IQAC-AIUB” on November 11, 2023. The seminar took place in Media Studio, AIUB. IQAC units of 17 universities across the country along with officials from Bangladesh Accreditation Council (BAC) attended the seminar. IQACs from Dhaka University, Jahangirnagar University, Shahjalal University of Science & Technology, University of Barishal, were some of the IQACs present at the event. Prof Dr. S M Kabir, Member, BAC and Dr. Sanjoy Kumar Adhikary, former Member, BAC, were also present at the seminar. This event adheres to the SDG achievements goals of AIUB, as it represents SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

The event was inaugurated with the welcome message from IQAC-AIUB, followed by a video depicting the chronological journey of IQAC-AIUB from 2008. To bring the dynamics of education to a higher level, in 2008, a quality assurance center (AQAC) was established at AIUB. In 2015 AQAC was transformed/restructured into an Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) as per mandate by the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC) – Ministry of Education (MoE). Prof. Dr. Farheen Hassan, Associate Dean, Faculty of Business Administration, IQAC-AIUB, presented a presentation at the seminar, covering challenges faced by IQAC, actions taken to overcome the challenges, future work plan and possible challenges to be faced in the near future. Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman, Pro-Vice Chancellor, AIUB along with his welcome message showcased the AIUB University Management System, that helps AIUB to comply strictly with Outcome Based Education (OBE) Policy. The backbone of AIUB is Virtual University Expert System (VUES), that digitizes every academic action undertaken at AIUB. This system was demonstrated by Danilo G. Morgia, Director, IT Operations, AIUB, to the attendees of the seminar. Md. Sadrul Amin, System Analyst, Software Development Department (SDD), AIUB, further explained the features of VUES focusing on the online course registration and student data management.

Prof Dr. S M Kabir, Member, BAC, in his short speech thanked AIUB for organizing such an informative session and hoped all the IQAC can start focusing on development of their IQAC centers. Dr. Sanjoy Kumar Adhikary, former Member, BAC, encouraged all attendees to take appropriate steps towards formulating a robust IQAC at their respective institutions.

A highly interactive question/answer session ended the seminar, where pathways for functional and progressing IQAC were discussed. Then Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman, Prof. Dr. Farheen Hassan, on behalf of AIUB, handed over a small token of appreciation to the guests present at the event. Later a lunch and campus tour were arranged for the attendees. The presence of Dr. ABM Rahmatullah, Additional Director, IQAC and other IQAC members Md. Imranul Haque, Pronoy Anthony Costa, Nazia Farhana, Mohammad Saef Ullah Miah and the support of AIUB Administration made the event a success.
