IEEE AIUB Student Branch celebrates IEEE Day 2013
IEEE AIUB Student Branch celebrated IEEE DAY 2013 on the 1st of October. This day is celebrated as the anniversary of the first time IEEE members gathered to share their technical ideas during the 18th century. IEEE AIUB Student Branch, the biggest student branch in Bangladesh celebrated the day with special poise. This year’s celebrations included many interesting events and activities ranging from seminars and workshops to contests and quizzes. IEEE not only defines standards in the field of technology but is also responsible for future engineers. While the world benefits from what’s new, IEEE is focused on what’s next. Thus this year the theme of IEEE Day was “Leveraging Technology for a Better Tomorrow”.
At the beginning of the ceremony Mr. Md. Saniat Rahman Zishan (Asst. Prof., Faculty of Engg. and Special Asst. of OSA) gave his welcome speech and briefed about the IEEE Day and its future plans. Mr. Rethwan Faiz(Lecturer, Faculty of Engg.) praised about the activities of IEEE AIUB Student Branch in his speech. Afterward, a motivating speech from Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman, (Asst. Prof. and Head (UG) of EEE Department), accentuating what the branch has accomplished so far, its impact on the students and the role of the IEEE community in order to shape the future of the students. Finally, Mr. Manzur H. Khan (Director, Office of Students Affairs) admired about the activities of AIUB IEEE Student Branch. He also emphasized on the importance of participating in extra-curricular activities. The opening ceremony ended with the cutting of a cake specially prepared for the occasion. Next the students battled it out in a quiz contest open to both the EEE and CS majors.
