DR. ANWARUL ABEDIN LECTURE SERIES
Lecture on
“Selected Topics of Power & Energy”A power and energy seminar entitled “Electric and Magnetic Charaterization of Materials for Electrical Machines”, was organized under the banner of Dr. Anwarul Abedin lecture Series on 12th June, 2013 by the Department of EEE. The seminar was hosted by Dr. Tareq Aziz, Assistant Professor, EEE Department. The seminar began with a speech by Prof. Dr. A.B.M. Siddique Hossain, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, giving an excellent introduction to the seminar and an overview of the scene. The guest speaker of the seminar was Mr. M.S.Muhit, Lecturer, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE), American International University Bangladesh (AIUB). The speaker discussed his views and experiences while characterizing materials for electrical machines in the light of presentation that was made. Focusing over the necessity of characterizing materials subjected to varying flux density levels, he centered over the step by step procedure to characterize structural metallic parts, both magnetically and electrically. Besides the use of commercial measuring devices, the development of test setup has been discussed; Speculation over the loss figures the sample undergoes was also made. He also talked about the difficulty in measurement of resistivity of ring shaped samples. Characterizing the samples electrically was to find the resistivity values of the structural pieces. Since, low level measurement values were obtained, a significant part of the discussion focused over the precautions required while performing the tests. He utilized his presentation as part of sharing his experience while working over with test bench setup incorporated with the challenges in the measurement techniques followed. During these sessions participants could discuss issues based on some questions and share thoughts with each other and the speaker. Faculty members from EEE department Mr. Shahriyar Masud Rizvi (Asst. Prof. EEE) and Dr. Tareq Aziz (Asst. Prof. Faculty of Engineering) were present at the seminar.
