On Thursday, August 21, 2025, the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB), in collaboration with Birmingham City University (BCU), UK, successfully organized a capacity-building training session on “Transforming Additive Manufacturing by Integrating Machine Learning and Digital Twins.” The program was conducted under the British Council funded Transnational Education (TNE) Exploratory Grant project, titled “Developing an international professional certification program for digital manufacturing at AIUB”.

This initiative is designed to support global Industry 4.0 advancements—such as artificial intelligence, digital twins, and big data analytics, while contributing to the realization of Smart Bangladesh Vision 2041 by addressing skill gaps and promoting advanced technology adoption in the manufacturing sector.

The first training session, hosted via the Zoom platform, was moderated by Prof. Dr. Md. Saniat Rahman Zishan, Director, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB.

The event began with an inaugural address by Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman, Pro-Vice Chancellor, AIUB, and the Lead, TNE Grant AIUB,  who highlighted the strategic importance of advanced manufacturing technologies for national and global competitiveness.

The technical session was conducted by Prof. Javaid Butt, Professor of Manufacturing and Product Design, Birmingham City University, UK, and the Principal Investigator, TNE Grant BCU who delivered an in-depth presentation on the integration of machine learning and digital twins in additive manufacturing. His session covered transformative applications across multiple industries and emphasized the interdisciplinary significance of this emerging knowledge domain.

Following the presentation, an interactive Q&A session provided participants with the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions and gain further insights.

To formally conclude the program, Prof. Dr. Md. Saniat Rahman Zishan expressed gratitude and presented a virtual token of appreciation to Prof. Javaid Butt for his valuable contribution. The training was attended by all the project members along with more than 225 participants from various countries, representing academia, industry, and student communities. The session concluded with a virtual group photo, marking the successful completion of this knowledge-sharing event.
