As a part of continuous social services and commitment to the community, AIUB Social Welfare Club–Shomoy recently completed one of its signature events, “Winter Clothing Drive 2024-25,” to help the underprivileged people deprived of warmth and care during the winter seasons. The event was carried out in two phases in two districts of the North Bengal part of Bangladesh, Thakurgaon, and Panchagarh, where 700 blankets were distributed to the people facing the utmost cold and severe winter effects.
The first phase was conducted on January 10, 2025 (Friday) at 10:00 am, in Parpugi B. L. High School Field, Jamalpur Union, Shibganj, Thakurgaon Sadar. A team of 11 students, including the Club President, General Secretary, Treasurer, Executive, and General Members of the Shomoy Club, visited the location and distributed 350 blankets among the villagers in association with the local volunteers and community representatives. The second phase was done in Dhangi Pukuri Government Primary School Field, Dhangi Pukuri Bazar, Harivasha Union, Panchagarh Sadar on January 11, 2025 (Saturday), where another 350 pieces of blankets were distributed to local villagers, madrasa students and others.
The event was graced by the Superintendent of Police (SP), Thakurgaon Sadar, Mr. Sheikh Shahidul Islam, PPM; Police Officers from the local Thana; and a Representative of the District Commissioner (DC), Ms. Ishrat Farzana. They enthusiastically participated with the Shomoy Club team members during the blanket distribution. They also expressed their heartfelt thanks to the AIUB Shomoy Club and the Office of Student Affairs (OSA), AIUB, for taking such a noble initiative to distribute love and warmth among the residents.
In preparation for this successful event, the Shomoy Club organized an on-campus booth collection drive, in which the AIUB community—students, faculty members, and administrative staff—generously contributed to fundraising. The Office of Student Affairs (OSA), AIUB, supervised and facilitated the initiative to ensure its smooth execution and expected accomplishments.
