American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB), a proud participant of the Responsible Futures International 2024/25 initiative, organized an engaging training session on 29 May 2025 in collaboration with Students Organising for Sustainability (SOS-UK). This global program aims to embed sustainability into all facets of student learning by fostering partnerships between students and institutions, encouraging ethical leadership and long-term environmental responsibility.

The training session was led by Ms. Sonya Peres, Senior Project Manager (Education Programmes), who participated virtually and Ms. Hridita Afsana, Student Staff and Programme Coordinator (Responsible Futures), who joined the event in person. The session was hosted by the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of AIUB and was attended by an enthusiastic mix of faculty members and students.

Representing AIUB IQAC were Professor Farheen Hassan, Ph.D., SFHEA – Director; Mr. Md. Imranul Haque – Manager & QA Program Evaluator; Mr. Pronoy Anthony Costa – Communications Officer & Assistant QA Program Evaluator; Ms. Nazia Farhana – Additional Director; Md. Saef Ullah Miah – Additional Director; and Ms. Susmita Ghosh – Program Assessor.

The session opened with an introductory segment, followed by informative presentations from Hridita and Sonya on the mission, impact, and activities of SOS-UK. They then led an interactive discussion on sustainability concepts, encouraging student participation and reflection. Several compelling case studies from the UK were shared to demonstrate how sustainability is being effectively integrated into higher education institutions.

The training concluded with a vote of thanks and a token of appreciation presented to Ms. Hridita Afsana by Professor Farheen Hassan, acknowledging her valuable contribution. The session not only enriched participants’ understanding of sustainability in education but also laid a strong foundation for AIUB’s ongoing journey with the Responsible Futures framework.
