AIUB has its First-Ever Internet-based Remote Seminar

A seminar titled “Digital IC Design Flow and Career Fields” was held on 19th February, 2012 at the Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) Department at AIUB. The seminar was held remotely via the Internet using Videoconferencing Technology. This was the first seminar of its kind at EEE Dept. at AIUB. The seminar was organized by EEE Department with great support from Mr. Shahriyar Masud Rizvi, Assistant Professor, EEE Dept. The seminar was conducted remotely by Mr. Khondakar Mujtaba, from the U.S. The program was attended by Prof. Dr. ABM Siddique Hossain, Professor and Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Tafazzal Hossain, Vice President, Academics, AIUB and Professor and Dean, Faculty of Science and Information Technology, Prof. M. A. Qaiyum, Professor, Faculty of Engineering and Registrar, AIUB, Mr. Rinku Basak, Assistant Professor & Coordinator, Dept. of EEE, as well as Prof. Bashudeb Chandra Ghosh, Professor, Dr. Md. Abdul Mannan, Assistant Professor, Mr. Syed Mustafa Ryadh, Assistant Professor, Mr. Chowdhury Akram Hossain, Lecturer, Mr. Abrar Faisal, Lecturer, Mr. Ahmed Mortuza Saleque, Lecturer, Mr. Subrata Biswas, Lecturer and Ms. Laila Nawsheen Manzoor, Lecturer, from the EEE Department. The target of the seminar was EEE and CSE undergraduate and graduate students who wish to enter the semiconductor industry as hardware design engineer. The presentation focused on VLSI  industry  design  flow including Front-End and Back-End Top-Down Design Flow for Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASIC),  practices  and  career fields. It walked the audience through step by step activity from chip design specification to Register Transfer Level (RTL) design with Hardware Description Languages (HDL) (i.e. Verilog HDL, VHDL, SystemVerilog) to RTL/Logic Synthesis to all  the  way  how  Physical Layout (chip  layout)  is  generated  for  IC  fabrication.  Students were also treated to a detailed explanation on the background needed and skills required to take advantage of the career opportunities available in this diverse field. In the end a question and answer session was held to address the various queries and concerns of the audience. About the Presenter: Mr. Khondakar  Mujtaba  is  a Processor/SoC (System-on-Chip)  design  engineer  from  Silicon Valley, with extensive background in various sectors of semiconductor industry. He has more than  12  years  of  industry  experience  in  broad  area  of  SoC  and  microprocessor  design, verification,  synthesis,  micro-architecture,  low  power/  high  speed  logic  design,  simulation and timing closure. He is currently working as a Staff Engineer in the SoC Research and Development Group at Samsung Semiconductor Inc. in USA. Previously he has worked with similar leading semiconductor companies such as Marvell Semiconductor, Inc. and Sun Microsystems. Mr. Mujtaba was granted a US patent for innovation in the field of Computer Architecture. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering  from  BIT,  Rajshahi  and  a  Masters  degree  in  Electrical  and  Computer Engineering from University of Florida at Gainsville, USA.
