AIUB expands its role as Regional Cisco Networking Academy in Bangladesh

DHAKA, Bangladesh – Feb. 07, 2009 – American International University- Bangladesh (AIUB) announced that it has been upgraded to a Cisco® Regional Academy status for offering Cisco IT Essentials curriculum in Bangladesh. Cisco is the worldwide leader in IT networking and has 11 existing local networking academies in the country for IT Essentials curriculum. As a Regional Academy, AIUB will provide Instructor Training to the local academy instructors of all the other IT Essentials academies including eight recently signed academies. The announcement was made by Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of AIUB at a ceremony held on February 07, 2009 at AIUB in presence of senior academicians, faculty members and students. She mentioned AIUB’s commitment in producing technical skilled manpower for the country. She also said that Bangladesh is full of potentials; we need to nourish and convert them into human-power. I believe we will work hand by hand throughout the years to materialize our dreams and build a better Bangladesh. A. A. Munir Hasan, Program Implementation Specialist, Prime Minister’s Office, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and Ms. Erika Hoffman, Country Director, JOBS Bangladesh delivered their speech as a guest speaker. IT Essentials Curriculum prepares students for entry-level positions in the IT domain within different working environments, such as corporate, help-desk and field environments. Students learn about the components of desktop and laptop computers by learning the proper procedures for hardware and software installations, updates and troubleshooting. Cisco Networking Academy is a network of more than 11,000 academies in over 165 countries with curriculum taught in nine different languages. Over 600,000 students are enrolled in the academy globally which operates in high schools, colleges and universities, technical schools and government organizations. Mr. Lokesh Mehra, Regional Manager- Corporate Responsibility, Cisco South Asia added, “Cisco believes that the Internet and Education are the two great equalizers of the century, creating enormous opportunities for people and countries that succeed in harnessing the power of information and knowledge. Our endeavour has been to take IT and networking education to students across Bangladesh and provide them yet another avenue for technical and professional excellence.
