On 15^th April, 2017 AIUB Community of Engineering Students (ACES) conducted an industrial tour at Dhaka Southern Power Generation Limited (DSPGL). DSPGL) has a power generation capacity of 55 MW. A group of 30 students with 2 faculty members of AIUB visited the power plant. The team was led by Dr. Mohammad Hasan Imam (Senior Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB) and Mr. Nasim Al Islam (Lecturer, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB). The team departed from the FE Building-2 at 8:00 a.m. and the tour bus reached the power plant around 10:00 a.m.                     

After a brief introduction by the Engineers the participants were given ear plugs to go inside the power plant. The participants were taken to the conference room after that and there, Mr. Shah Alam (Deputy Manager, Mechanical Maintenance, DSPGL) briefly explained the basics of the Engines and Alternators. Then the team was divided into 3 groups of 10 participants in each group. Mr. Md. Lutfar Rahman (Assistant Engineer, Electrical Maintenance, DSPGL) described the different units and showed how to read the level of a solar system, temperature sensor and some fuel tanks. He explained how to synchronize engine, how to operate auxiliary boiler, uses of fire pump and turbine. After the instructor was done explaining the operations of both the engine and alternator to the students, the visitors were again taken to the conference room where some refreshments were served.

At the very end the Authorities of DSPGL had a conversation with the students and praised AIUB for taking such an initiative for engineering students to make them observe an important sector of   Power and stimulated to organize more events like this and make the students more informed and familiar with the pragmatic world. AIUB Community of Engineering Students (ACES) extends its fervent gratitude to the authority of the DSPGL for their support and conviviality. Last but not the least, the Authorities and Instructors of the tour were given gift hampers as a token of appreciation and hospitality by the faculty members of AIUB. The tour came to an end with a group photo with all the authorities and the participants. It was an important and successful tour for engineering students who were interested in power sector.
