The prestigious AIUB Law Department invited a US District Attorney, Raju Mahajan Esq, to speak to the students about a legal career in the US on the 18th of November 2024. The evening was blessed by the presence of the chief guest, the Vice Chancellor of AIUB Professor Dr. Saiful Islam. Among the guests of honour were the Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Abdur Rahman and the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Professor Dr. Tajul Islam.
The evening began through the ever charming and inspiring speech of the Vice Chancellor. In addition to academic excellence, the Vice Chancellor advised the students to focus on professional engagements and industry-based skills and competencies. The key speaker of the evening, Mr. Raju Mahajan Esq, was then invited to address the audience.
Mr. Mahajan talked about various aspects of practicing law in the US. In particular, he educated the students about the many pathways the US legal system offers to foreign students to practice law in the US. The talk was followed by a question-and-answer session. A thanksgiving speech was proffered by the Head of the Department of Law Associate Professor Dr. Syeda Afroza Zerin. She highlighted the importance of engagements and activities in professional associations which pave the path to a bright legal practice. She also encouraged the students to consider foreign legal practices in advanced legal systems which could, in essence, benefit the growth of the legal industry in Bangladesh. Dr. Zerin then thanked the organisers for working tirelessly to organise the program. Dr. Zerin also thanked the host of the program, Associate Professor of the Law Department Ferdousi Begum. The programme was anchored by Fahim Faisal Khan Alabi (Barrister-at-Law, Inner Temple, UK), Lecturer, AIUB Law Department.
