Abstract

The textile industry in Bangladesh is a vital engine of the national economy, significantly boosting GDP and employment while establishing the country as a top global exporter of garments. The keystone of the nation’s economy faces increasing pressure to adopt sustainable practices due to global environmental concerns and regulatory demands. This study aims to explore the integration of renewable energy within the sector, focusing on the opportunities and challenges involved in this transition. The analysis reveals that while significant opportunities exist, including cost savings, enhanced energy security, and reduced carbon footprint, the industry also encounters substantial challenges such as high initial investment costs, technological barriers, and policy limitations. By analyzing current energy utilization patterns, potential renewable energy sources, and existing infrastructure, the research identifies key areas for improvement and investment. Through quantitative analysis, we examine energy consumption data and project the potential contributions of solar, wind, and biomass energy sources to meet the industry's energy requirements. Case studies of successful implementations and stakeholder interviews offer insights into best practices and strategic recommendations. This study highlights the necessity for collaborative efforts among the government, private sector, and international organizations to create an environment conducive to renewable energy adoption, ultimately supporting the sustainable growth of Bangladesh’s textile industry.
