Abstract

This research examines Bangladesh's legacy media's transition from print to digital platforms with a particular emphasis on the revenue landscape, audience engagement, and sustainability. The period from 2020 through 2024 was marked by a rapid decline in traditional media's circulation and advertising revenues while digital platforms experienced rapid growth in readership and subscription revenue. Even as overall advertising revenues remained constant, they were increasingly captured by digital. Print media also reported significant job reductions highlighting its struggles while journalism and newsrooms were digitized significantly, the overall sustainability index of the legacy media sector was trending downward. This research explores meaningful insights into media transformation in emerging economies and the immediate need for legacy media to think radically to ensure financial viability and a longer-term sustainability plan in the digital realm.
