The Department of Architecture, American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) organized a lecture event under the banner of the 'Dr Anwarul Abedin Lecture Series' where prominent architect Bayejid Mahbub Khondker delivered a lecture on “Six Typologies: selected works of Nakshabid Architects” on Sunday, June 30, 2024, at AIUB auditorium. Architect Bayejid Mahbub Khandaker recently received the prestigious Royal Institute of British Architects [RIBA] International Award for Excellence 2024. In addition to this remarkable achievement, he has previously won two gold medals at the ARCASIA Awards for Architecture 2023.
In Architecture, the built environment serves as a powerful mode of expression for cultural evolution and dynamic economic growth. Khondker's ideas facilitate a bridge between past and present and resonate deeply with communities' collective memory. This connection and his work's contextual relevance have made his architectural vision recognized nationwide. His work spans various scales, from single building blocks to public spaces infused with local character, demonstrating a profound understanding of context and sustainability.
The lecture event commenced with a warm welcome note from the pro-VC of AIUB, Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman. Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna, member Board of Trustees, AIUB and Dr. Mohammed Zakiul Islam, Professor & Head, Department of Architecture, BUET graced the event. Dr. A B M Siddique Hossain, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, M Arefeen Ibrahim, Head, Dept. of Architecture, and the Faculty members of Architecture Dept. of AIUB were present in the ceremony. The joyful presence of architects, academicians, and students from different universities made the event more successful. The audience was totally spellbound by the presentation of Bayejid Mahbub Khandaker. The lecture ended with a question-and-answer session.
The event was only possible because of the spontaneous hard work of student volunteers and organizers (Irfat Alam, Assistant Professor; Tabassum Zarin, Assistant Professor) and the support provided by the AIUB administration.
