On 2nd December 2017, IEEE AIUB Student Branch hosted “IEEE Young Professionals Bangladesh STEP 2017”. The program was organized by IEEE Young Professionals, Bangladesh Section and supported by IEEE Region 10 Young Professionals. The IEEE STEP (Student Transition & Elevation Partnership) was developed to provide a dynamic program for facilitating the transition from Student Member to Young Professional by introducing the opportunities and benefits of IEEE membership during the onset of a STEM career. A total of 60 delegates from different universities and institutions took part in this flagship expedition. The venture was inaugurated with an opening speech from Dr. M. Tanseer Ali, Counselor, IEEE AIUB Student Branch; Senior Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB, who discussed the importance of learning professional ethics for a better professional career. He then emphasized on fostering mutual respect in the workplace to enhance an individual’s performance to which he concluded his talk.
Following that, the first session titled “Essential Skill of Excel for Career Development” was conducted by, Mr. Khawja Asshad Belal Manager, Business Analytics, ACI Logistics Limited. He initiated his presentation by briefing the use of Microsoft Excel in corporate and industries. Later, he demonstrated a dashboard consisting of data & charts on Fixed Cost & Variable Cost Analysis created in Excel. Later, he gave an open challenge to the participants to solve mathematical problems in excel. The first three participants to solve the problem were provided with tokens of appreciation by Mr. Khawja Asshad Belal. Finally, Mr. Shams Saad Islam Khan, Chair, IEEE Young Professionals Bangladesh Section; Mentor, IEEE AIUB Student Branch, System Engineer, Bangla Phone Limited and Mr. Muhtady Muhaisin Rafid, Treasurer, IEEE Young Professionals Bangladesh Section, provided Mr. Khawja Ashhad Belal with certificate and token of appreciation. The second session titled “Engineering Skills for Professional Life” was conducted by Mr. Mahmudul Haque Jishan, Planning Executive, Premiaflex Plastic, ACI Limited; Former Vice-Chair, IEEE AIUB Student Branch, who initiated his presentation by discussing the core skills of an engineer which include problem-solving, brainstorming and critical thinking capabilities. He then emphasized on how being involved with extra-curricular activities and having knowledge of other professional software can give an individual an edge in securing a job position. Furthermore, he advised the participants to take extensive preparation before sitting for a job interview. Later, Mr. Kazi Ahmed Asif Fuad, Lecturer, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB; Motivator, IEEE AIUB Student Branch, Mr. Akib Jobaer Rahman, Membership Development Coordinator, IEEE Young Professionals Bangladesh Section, and Mr. Md. Abdul Al Azmain, Educational Activity Coordinator, IEEE Young Professionals Bangladesh Section, handed over certificate and token of appreciation to Mr. Mahmudul Haque Jishan. Following that, the final session of the day “Modern CV with PowerPoint” was conducted by Nasim Al Islam, Vice Chairperson, IEEE Young Professionals(YP) Bangladesh Section; Lecturer, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB, who initiated his presentation by discussing the importance of a curriculum vitae and its characteristics. He also emphasized the use of professional fonts, alignments, action words and action verbs in a curriculum vita. Later, he demonstrated a presentation on how to create a curriculum vita in Microsoft PowerPoint where he guided the participants in making their own curriculum vitae. The session was concluded with an interactive question and answer session with the participants. Mr. Nasim Al Islam was provided with certificate and token of appreciation by the executive members of IEEE Young Professionals Bangladesh Section.
The concluding speech was delivered by Mr. Shams Shad Islam Khan, who discussed the IEEE Young Professionals affinity group and its activities related to workplace ethics. Furthermore, he urged the participants who are to be graduates in the near future to be part of IEEE Young Professionals. The day-long venture was concluded with a group photo session.
