The Media and Mass Communication (MMC) Department of the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) organized an inspiring and vibrant event titled; “Harmonizing Cultures: Live, Love & Flourish”, on November 25, 2024, at 3:30 PM to welcome the freshers and bidding farewell to graduating students. The event, held at the Media Studio of AIUB, brought together students, faculty, and distinguished guests to celebrate art, culture, and academic achievements.
The program was inaugurated with a welcome speech by Ms. Afroza Sultana, Coordinator of the MMC Department, who set the tone for the festivities. Professor Dr. Saiful Islam, Vice-Chancellor of AIUB, graced the event as Chief Guest. In his speech, Dr. Islam emphasized the transformative role of art and culture, particularly in the field of communication and journalism. He encouraged students to pursue constructive journalism, reminding them of their power to shape national discourse and connect with society.
Professor Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman, Pro Vice-Chancellor, attended as a Special Guest. He advised students to embody ethics, morality, responsibility, and respect in their journalistic endeavors, highlighting the critical role of ethical journalism in fostering societal progress.
The program also welcomed notable guests, including Shanaiya Abedin, Member of the Board of Trustees, AIUB; Dr. Tazul Islam, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences; AJM Shafiul Alam Bhuiyan, Advisor of the MMC Department; and a very special guest Mr. Ishtiaque Abedin, Founder Member of the Board of Trustees, AIUB. Heads of various departments from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, along with faculty members and students from different departments, attended, creating an atmosphere of unity and celebration.
Ms. Shanaiya Abedin expressed pride in the MMC Department’s rapid growth and commended the students for graduating with top-notch, hands-on skills.
Professor Dr. Tazul Islam highlighted the rapid growth of the MMC program, sharing that the increasing number of students and the positive feedback from their families reflect the department’s strength. He encouraged fresher students to fully utilize the resources and facilities AIUB provides to support their personal and professional growth.
Addressing the graduating students, Professor Dr. AJM Shafiul Alam Bhuiyan reminded them that their relationship with the university does not end with graduation. "University is a one-way street; you never leave. You become a part of the community," he said, fostering a sense of lifelong connection to AIUB.
The event concluded with a dynamic cultural program that showcased the creative talents of AIUB students. Live dance, music, and poetry recitals celebrated the rich diversity of Bangladeshi culture. A fashion show blending traditional and modern styles captivated the audience, symbolizing the harmonious integration of heritage and creativity.
The Harmonizing Cultures: Live, Love & Flourish program served as a memorable occasion for welcoming new students and bidding farewell to graduates, reflecting AIUB’s commitment to fostering creativity, cultural appreciation, and a sense of belonging among its community.
