Department of Architecture, American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) celebrated their completion of Ten years through AIUB ARCHITECTURE WEEK 2016 from 4th to 7th of January, 2016 in a grand festive way. This week long celebration ceremony was eventful with student work exhibition, student design competition, workshops and National Assembly Building Tour, Award Giving & Cultural program, Lecture series by prominent Architects & academicians etc.
DAY 01: The program was inaugurated by RAJUK (Rajdhani Unnoyon Kotripokkho) Chaiman Mr. Jainal Abedin on 4th January morning at AIUB auditorium, in presence of Honorable Vice Chancellor Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna, respected teachers and students. On the opening speech, Mr. Abedin expressed his hope that in future days of green and clean Dhaka planning, Architects would play a very important role. After the inauguration took place, AIUB faculties and students organized an opening rally celebrating the ceremony together. Then student work exhibition at Architecture Department in FASS Building was inaugurated by the Department’s founding Head Professor Saleh Uddin.
DAY 02: In this ten year celebration ceremony, prominent Architecture author, educator, Professor Emeritus of University of Washington Seattle USA Francis D K Ching was invited to visit Bangladesh, to be a part of the event. Professor D K Ching delivered his valuable speech on how he perceives “Seeing, Thinking, Drawing” to a gathering of Bangladeshi Architects and Architecture students, which took place at Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB) Center on 5th January evening, followed by Cultural Program performed by AIUB Architecture students, alumni and teachers. Honorable Minister of Science & Technology Ar. Yeafesh Osman was the Chief Guest of the ceremony. Our Honorable Vice Chancellor Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna along with Dean of Engineering Dr. ABM Siddique Hossain, Dean of Social Sciences Dr. Tazul Islam, other AIUB high officials and respected faculties graced the program with their presence. Chief Architect of Department of Architecture in Ministry of Housing & Public Works Ar. Kazi Nasir, IAB President Dr. Abu Sayeed M. Ahmed, IAB ex-president Ar. Mobassher Hossain, Ar. Shamsul Wares, Prof. Shaheda Rahman among many other distinguished guests were present at the ceremony. Hundreds of prominent architects, renowned academicians, alumni and architecture students from AIUB and other universities enjoyed the program of this Celebration Ceremony and praised highly about the initiative and arrangement of such a grand scale program.
DAY 03: On 6th January evening, Professor Saleh Uddin and renowned Architect Mustapha Khalid Palash delivered their thoughts on Architecture education and future buildings of Dhaka at AIUB auditorium.
DAY 04: Day 4 was for a fun-filled entertaining event of Friendly Cricket Match between Architecture Teachers and Students in Banani Club Ground in the morning of January 6, 2016.
AIUB was established in 1994, while the Department of Architecture started its journey in September, 2005, with two teachers and four students. Head of the Department, Mr. Arefeen Ibrahim expressed his hope that the Department would prosper more in the years to come, and on behalf of the Department he thanked AIUB administration, officials, IAB members, all faculties, alumni, students and sponsor organizations at the end of the ceremony for their active collaboration in making the event as a successful & memorable one.
