FOLKLORE 2022 – SYMPHONY OF THE WORLD

Folklore aims to bring together folk performances from various cultures around the world, in celebration of the diversity that does not divide, but unites. In the chaotic turmoil that we are all going through today, harmony is crucial to get us through it, now more than ever. And as Maya Angelou said, ‘everything in the universe has a rhythm’. To keep going, you have to keep up the rhythm. So, bringing about a tradition anew, on the occasion of the International Mother Language Day, the Folklore 2022 – Symphony of the World, Season 2, will commemorate the incredible rhythms of young talents from across the globe, both traditional to their native tongues and an unconventional original or cover of their choice. The festival will showcase amazing folk performances (songs, dances, and/or recitals) that honor the heritage of folk music across borders and transcending generations. Each participant will be awarded a Certificate of Appreciation/Participation as a token of gratitude acknowledging their efforts and contribution towards bringing the event to life.

TENTATIVE PROGRAM SCHEDULE

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

• Participating members should be currently enrolled students, authorized by the respective institutions.
• Each submission can include up to 2 video performances (1 folk and/or 1 original/cover).
• Submissions may vary in form, ranging from, but not limited to solo/group song, dance, and/or recital performances.
• All participants must complete the registration online through Google Forms (https://forms.gle/FiPhFmPSzCeVk1mA8) and upload their video submissions in the Google Drive (https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1lak93QaXneOXcZRBK72f4Wgg4Ye41Mdg?usp=sharing) by the set deadline.
• The final selections will be featured in the virtual event, which is also be shared through Facebook Live on the Official AIUB Page.

RULES & REGULATIONS

• The submission should include a brief introduction of each performance describing the history/meaning/significance of the song/dance/recital, along with the logo of the participant institution (and student organization, if applicable).
• The video submission of the performances should not exceed 10 minutes in total duration.
• Participants must register online on Google Forms (with the institution’s official authorization) and upload their video files to the designated Google Drive.
• Any copyrights must be duly credited within the video of each performance, unless it is an original creation of the participant(s).
• As an affiliate, the program link must be shared in the respective institution/club’s Facebook page.
• The video submissions should be in landscape orientation, ensuring HD quality resolution, in mp4 format.
• Participants must provide the contact information of the designated department from their respective institutions to officially authorize the participating student(s).
• Once submitted, the performances cannot be shared to/through any other medium until after the event is officially concluded.
• All participants are expected to comply with the aforementioned rules and regulations.

FOLKLORE 2021 – SYMPHONY OF THE WORLD

On the occasion of the International Mother Language Day, AIUB organized its Folklore 2021 – Symphony of the World, Season 1, a virtual international celebration of folk musical performances from institutions across the globe, on the 21^st of February 2021. This unique event, one of the first of its kind, showcased with around 30 amazing musical performances by the students of 17 institutions from 10 countries around the world that honor the heritage of folk music across borders and transcending generations, “resonating through the lockdown”.

OFFICE OF STUDENT AFFAIRS (OSA)

Office of Student Affairs [OSA] works relentlessly throughout the semesters to ensure multi-faceted student services and successful co-curricular programs. OSA coordinates and supports a number of different processes and initiatives of its student body, including the co-curricular programs and activities of its student clubs. AIUB has about 15 proactive student organizations, who work on a diverse array of projects, campaigns, and workshops for their member base as well as the general student body. There is a passion pursuit for everyone here, from performance arts to drama, debate, photography, film-making, arts, and even social welfare. There are even faculty-focused clubs that emphasize on business, science, and engineering. Many of these clubs arrange and participate in several national and international competitions every semester. OSA also assists and promotes student exchange programs, community service, outreach programs, and collaborations with several stakeholders. One of the prominent and proactive student organizations is the AIUB Performing Arts Club (APAC). APAC performs cultural programs, participating and organizing various events within and beyond AIUB. The club is enriched in incredible singers, musicians, dancers, and reciters, who have been the highlight of the major cultural programs of the university over the years, showcasing their talent in the limelight. Continuously striving for excellence in holistic education, AIUB has always emphasized on its co-curricular student development, taking pride in its efforts to build its student community.
