To commemorate his first death anniversary, the university organized a number of religious and cultural programs in his honor. One of this is a program held in the auditorium of the university on 8 September 2013 at 3:00-4:15PM. The program was opened by a recitation from the Holy Quran by Prof. M.A. Quiayum and then followed by a welcome speech by the honorable Vice Chancellor Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna. In her welcome speech, the Vice Chancellor recalled the good traits and passion of the late Chairman in establishing a world class university so that Bangladeshi students need not to go abroad for their higher education. Three important events highlight the program such as the unveiling of the hand painted portrait of the late Dr. Anwar Abedin by the family members. This was followed by the heartwarming tributes from an alumna, Ms. Farheen Hassan; representing the administrative officials is Mr. Shahidullah; and on behalf of the faculty members, Mr. S.M. A brief summary of the book was read by Prof. Dr. Charles C. Villanueva, Dean Faculty of Business Administration. The experiences and challenges encountered are milestones in the success of AIUB which can serve as an inspiration for the stakeholders and future investors in promoting and investing in higher education sector. It is truly an academic odyssey. Being the early initiator and negotiator in establishing the university, Mr. Isthiaque Abedin , the founder and Vice President for International and Public Affairs, delivered a brief acceptance speech underscoring the significance of this book to AIUB. Another legacy of Dr. Anwarul Abedin was unfolded by the daughter founder and Vice President for Student Affairs, the Dr. Anwarul Abedin Scholarship Grant for Female Student.
