The celebration of Basanta Utsav (Celebrating Spring) organized by the Department of English added festivity at AIUB’s horizon expanding panoramic permanent campus at Kuril on Thursday afternoon of 15th February 2018. Earlier, Pahela Falgun, the first day of Bengali spring season, ushered in AIUB campus with full yellow hued festivity, and two days later, the celebration with cultural program on 15th, doubled the joy of the students of all faculties in the campus. The yellow wearable of the students very well catalyzed with various colorful flowers of the gardens of their campus. The seasonal festivity that day, was a great opportunity for the teachers’ and students’ interaction in the campus. Keeping the vibrancy and adaptability of Bengali culture in mind, the yellow stage of the program was adorned with indigenous materials and flowers. The participants in the celebration program also maintained the same ethnic sensuality in their costume and get up.
Rabindranath Tagore the sage poet initially appropriated the concept of joy and brotherhood and initiated Basanta Utsav celebration in our culture, hence, AIUB Department of English arranged the Basanta Utsav mostly with seasonal songs and dances of Tagore. The students, faculty members and administrative officials joined the program with full enthusiasm to celebrate the seasonal festival. The cultural performance with songs, recitation, dance, drama and dramatic monologue contained a fusion of both the students’ and teachers’ performances. The faculty members joined the stage with guitar and rocking musical performances of both classical and modern Bengali songs. The songs of different varieties from Shachin Dev Barman to James were performed. The students bustled with joy and excitement throughout the whole program.
The Dean of Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Tazul Islam, the Head of the Department of English, M Hamidul Haque along with many other faculty members from different departments also enjoyed the program.
