Abstract
Background: The usage of batteries of all types, including Li-ion and lead-acid batteries, is increasing because of the growing popularity of electric vehicles for environmental and sustainable reasons. EVs are introduced to minimize fossil fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. However, concerns about how EV batteries affect the environment and public health have intensified due to the rapid increase of battery waste. Methodology: To evaluate the effects on public and human health and the environment, a statistical analysis approach is taken, such as graphical analysis and correlation analysis, which also evaluates how circular economic models like recycling, repurposing, and remanufacturing can reduce the waste of EV industry batteries. This study investigates production practices, usage patterns, disposal, and life duration. Some case studies and secondary data are also analyzed to understand the impact of battery disposal on the environment and public health. Findings: The results suggest that battery disposal rates must be connected to the ability of waste management of batteries, which suggests that the adoption of EVs may induce more vulnerability to the environment and health hazards. With that, the waste also raises issues about heavy metal contamination from batteries near industrial areas. Circular modeling precisely mitigates the impact with a significant margin of about 40%–60%. Conclusion: More battery recycling facilities and the development of a circular economy are suggested by the study as ways to better integrate EVs with the fewest possible negative effects on the environment and human health and maintain sustainable practices.
