Abstract
Bangladesh is an agricultural nation that heavily depends on climatic factors, more especially rainfall, in terms of rice crop-a major element of its food security. The research critically evaluates the pattern of average annual rainfall with rice production of Bangladesh by data acquired from the Bangladesh Meteorological Department and the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics in the period of 2014-2023. During this time, the rainfall varied from a low of 2,654 mm in 2014 to a high of 2,950 mm in 2023, while rice output has progressively climbed from 34.36 million metric tons to 39.10 million metric tons, but modest losses occurred in certain years owing to decreased yields. Examination demonstrates that the trend of rice production has been increasing, but its dependency upon yearly rainfall is diminishing while other variables such as improved irrigation infrastructure, superior technology for farming, and high-yielding cultivars have gained more relevance. A second correlation study would therefore demonstrate that there is a weak to moderate positive association between precipitation and rice cultivation-that whilst rainfall remains crucial, particularly during sensitive times of plant development, the national agricultural setup is growing less reliant on it. This illustrates development in the right direction toward a more resilient agricultural sector powered by an investment in infrastructure and technology that enable choices for overcoming vagaries of a changing environment. Research shows how the combination of comprehensive water management, constant technology advancements, and legislative initiatives in anticipation may make rice production more sustainable. This work adds to the vital insights for policy analysts concerned with enhancing food security and agricultural sustainability amidst a changing climate via an assessment of how the historical link between precipitation and rice production has altered over time.
