Abstract
Background: Currently, Bangladesh faces significant challenges in its transportation sector, marked by increasing urbanization and air pollution. The reliance on fossil fuels exacerbates environmental concerns. Transitioning to electric vehicles presents a viable solution to reduce emissions, improve air quality, and achieve sustainable development goals. The study examines the role of electric vehicles in achieving low-carbon transportation goals in Bangladesh, addressing challenges and policies to foster adoption. Method and Materials: To analyze the role of electric vehicles in low carbon transportation both primary and secondary data was analyzed. Secondary data were obtained from academic publications and credible web sources. And the primary data were collected by performing questionnaire-based surveys. The acquired data was then subjected to graphical and statistical analysis to examine the impact of electric vehicles. This analysis provided a detailed understanding of passenger perception, prospects and challenges in adoption of electric vehicles. The table compares emissions from different vehicle types by fuel and category. This highlights electric vehicles' environmental advantage in reducing overall emissions, crucial for addressing air pollution and climate change from transportation. The table shows carbon intensity (gCO2eq/kWh) for different energy consumption levels (Wh/km), with corresponding emission reduction percentages for electric vehicles. Conclusion: In conclusion, this study emphasizes the critical role of electric vehicles (EVs) in shaping Bangladesh's transportation landscape towards sustainability, offering a pathway to cleaner air quality and enhanced energy security for the nation.
