Abstract

Research Area : This study focuses on developing renewable energy solutions to ensure reliable electricity supply in rural areas of Bangladesh affected by frequent flooding. The aim is to create a sustainable power system that can withstand flood disruptions and support community needs. Goals/Objectives The main goal is to design an affordable hybrid renewable energy system suited for flood-prone rural regions. This system should maintain continuous power supply by combining solar, small hydropower, and battery storage to address the limitations of the conventional grid. Methodology Energy demand and flood data were collected from targeted villages to model a hybrid system integrating solar panels, micro-hydropower units, and battery storage. Simulations were run to optimize energy generation and storage, ensuring power availability during flood events. Results and Analysis Initial findings show that the hybrid system reduces power outages significantly. Solar energy covers daytime usage, hydropower supplements during water flow, and batteries store excess energy for night and cloudy periods. However, challenges in local maintenance and spare part access remain. References [1] Rahman, A., et al. (2020). Renewable energy applications in rural Bangladesh: A review.
