Analysis of the Causes and Social Impact of Juvenile Delinquency: A Comprehensive Study on Adolescent Offenders

Abstract
Background: Juvenile delinquency, once seen as isolated, has become an alarming issue, particularly in urban slums where adolescents face numerous challenges due to urbanization and socio-economic disparities and leading to more youth involvement in crime and violence, affecting families and communities. By understanding the underlying factors and consequences and collecting public opinions, this study seeks to identify the contributing factors and to inform better prevention strategies to reduce juvenile delinquency in the country. Objective(s): The objectives of this studies are to provide the major theoretical concept of Juvenile Delinquency by identifying the factors contributing among adolescent offenders and analyzing the societal impact of juvenile delinquency by exploring both individuals and communities and evaluating societal perceptions, focused on summarizing frequencies and percentages to better understand the general sentiment and awareness levels within the community regarding juvenile delinquency. Methodology: The large primary dataset for this study collected through the Google Survey form which included four distinct sections: Demographic, Knowledge of Juvenile Delinquency, Personal experience and Causes and Impacts, suggestions and the secondary data relevant to this study has been collected from different reliable sources including articles. This study followed both quantitative and qualitative methods. Results: The result revealed that 78% of participants were aware of juvenile delinquency, with 48% witnessing acts like bullying (29%), substance abuse (26%), and theft (16%). While 54% viewed the issue as very serious, suggested interventions included parenting counseling (33%), school-based awareness programs and stricter laws enforcement (25%), with 69% expressing doubt about the legal system’s effectiveness and 45% advocating stronger family and community support. Conclusion: Juvenile delinquency in Bangladesh is shaped by interrelated factors including socioeconomic hardship, family dysfunction, peer influence, substance abuse, and mental health issues. Addressing these factors and implementing prevention strategies is essential to create a supportive environment for youth and reducing delinquency. Collaborative action among policymakers, educators, and community stakeholders is essential to mitigating the long-term social impact of juvenile delinquency.
