Ms. Nadia Anwar, Chairman of the AIUB Board of Trustees, and Mr. Russell T. Ahmed, President of BASIS (Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the AIUB campus on Sunday, September 8, 2024, for the upcoming NASA Space Apps Challenge 2024. BASIS is the organizer of this prestigious competition, which will be held at the AIUB campus on October 4–5, 2024. The American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) is the title sponsor of this year’s NASA Space Apps Challenge 2024.
As an international hackathon led by the Earth Science Division, Science Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C., Space Apps unites the brightest minds from around the globe. The challenge brings together coders, scientists, designers, storytellers, makers, builders, technologists, and innovators to address real-world problems. NASA and its esteemed Space Agency Partners provide free open data for participants to use. Working together, these brilliant minds create innovative solutions to tackle the monumental challenges we face on Earth and beyond.
Since its inception in 2012, the NASA International Space Apps Challenge has ignited curiosity and driven the ambition of over 220,000 forward-thinking individuals from more than 185 countries and territories. BASIS, as the long-standing custodian of this event, has upheld its commitment for ten consecutive years in Bangladesh. In collaboration with NASA and the BASIS Students' Forum (BSF), BASIS has created a platform for participants from nine local events across Bangladesh to engage in this prestigious international challenge. Projects of all kinds—hardware, software, mobile applications, games, prototypes—based on the challenges presented by NASA each year, demonstrate the limitless potential of innovation. Participants from all corners of Bangladesh use their talents and ideas to create solutions that inspire and spark ambition to redefine what is possible.
BASIS Vice President (Finance) Mr. Iqbal Ahmed Fakhrul Hasan, NASA Space Apps Challenge 2024 Bangladesh Chapter Convener Mr. Abhijit Bhowmik (Associate Professor, Computer Science, AIUB), and local leads Mr. Anisul Haq and Mr. Sanjar Adnan Alam were present from BASIS during the MOU signing ceremony. From AIUB, Prof. Dr. Manzur H. Khan, Proctor, and Deputy Director of the Office of Student Affairs Mr. Ziarat Hossain Khan were also in attendance.
