Dr. Carmen Z Lamagna, Vice Chancellor of AIUB distributed the trophies among the winners along with Mr. Lokesh Mehra, Regional Manager-Corporate Responsibility, Cisco South Asia and Mr. Jagan Jothivel, Area Academy Manager, Cisco SAARC. Prof. Dr. Tafazzal Hossain, Vice President, Academics & Dean-in-Charge, Faculty of Science and IT and Prof. Dr. Sidduque Hossain, Dean, Faculty of Engineering also spoke on the occasion.
Among others, Mr. Manzur H Khan, Director, Office of Student Affairs, Md. Manirul Islam, Deputy Director, CEC, Mr. Dannilo Morgia, Head of Software Development, and Mr. Ziarat H. Khan, Deputy Director, Student Services were also present at the prize distribution ceremony held at the AIUB Auditorium in the afternoon. Mr. Md. Manirul Islam, Deputy Director of Continuing Education Center of AIUB and LMC of Cisco Regional Academy, AIUB conceptualized and materialized the National Cisco Competition in Bangladesh in collaboration with Cisco.
The American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) along with the worldwide leader in networking- Cisco® has been organizing the National Cisco Skills Competition since 2008 on a regular basis. This year, it is the 3rd arrangement of the competition. The top three winning teams of the competition will represent Bangladesh at the SAARC Skills Competition scheduled for end of September and the winner will represent Bangladesh in the APAC Skills Competition slated on October 28th 2010.
Earlier in the morning, the competition was inaugurated by Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna, Vice-Chancellor of American International University – Bangladesh (AIUB) in the presence of Mr. Lokesh Mehra, Regional Manager-Corporate Responsibility, Cisco South Asia and Mr. Jagan Jothivel, Area Academy Manager, Cisco SAARC.
The Skills Competition helps evaluate students’ skills in designing, maintaining and troubleshooting computer networks so as to ensure that the quality of training being provided to students is in line with the best in the world.
There are currently 20 Cisco Networking Academies in Bangladesh of which 18 offer CCNA curriculum and 11 IT Essentials. Over 3460 students are currently enrolled at Cisco academies, marking an increase of 5.5 % over last year.
